La Atlántida Sumergida – Contemporary Opera Project
April 2024
Teatro Real, Madrid

In April last year, I participated as saxophonist in La Atlántida Sumergida, a contemporary opera project presented at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The production featured the world premieres of four new operatic works by young composers from the composition class of José María Sánchez-Verdú, offering a platform for new voices in contemporary opera.
The project explored new operatic formats, dramaturgies, and instrumental roles, with the saxophone integrated into the operatic texture both as an ensemble and expressive element. Working closely with composers, singers, and the production team, this experience deepened my engagement with contemporary operatic language, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the performative demands of new music.
The project was met with strong critical reception. As noted by Scherzo, the works “demonstrated craftsmanship and talent…,” highlighting both the individuality of the composers and the success of the production. Composers & Works: Gabriel Olarte Vázquez — Un grano de arena; Alejandro Chaves — Atlántida y Pangea; Lucas Perugini Aprá —Heredarás este odio; Ángel de la Hera — SÓNAR
