ABOUT ME

Borja Alejo (Madrid, Spain) is a saxophonist and performer whose artistic path has developed through a multicultural journey between Spain, the Netherlands, and Austria. Active across contemporary and classical music, his work combines performance practice with cultural and artistic management, with a strong focus on collaboration and the exploration of new repertoire.

He has performed both as a soloist and as a member of various orchestras and ensembles in renowned concert halls across Europe, including the Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid), Palau de la Música (Valencia), the Musikverein (Vienna), TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht), and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam). His performance activity spans a wide range of formats, from chamber music to large ensemble and orchestral projects.

Borja completed his Bachelor of Music in Classical Saxophone at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, graduating with highest distinction. During this period, he studied under the guidance of Andrés Gomis and Francisco Martínez, who played a central role in shaping his artistic and technical development. He also broadened his perspective by attending masterclasses with saxophonists from around the world.

As part of his undergraduate studies, he completed an exchange year at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (Netherlands), where he studied with Johan van der Linden and Deborah Witteveen, and worked with Willem Van Merwijk and Andreas Mader, gaining insight into diverse pedagogical approaches and performance traditions.

He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Contemporary Music (chamber music focus) at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, studying under Álvaro Collao León, with a strong emphasis on contemporary repertoire and collaborative performance practice.

Deeply engaged in contemporary creation, he works closely with emerging composers and regularly takes part in new music projects and festivals, including Wien Modern (Vienna), Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Netherlands), and Spanish contemporary music festivals such as ENSEMS (Valencia).

As a performer

My work as a performer moves beyond the instrument toward a body-centered performance practice. Through contemporary repertoire, the integration of voice and body, and theatrical approaches, I treat sound as an extension of the performer’s physical and emotional presence, exploring new sonic colors and expressive dimensions.

Borja Alejo | Saxophon & Artistic Management

Alongside my work as a performer, I engage in cultural management as an extension of artistic practice. I am interested in creating meaningful frameworks that allow artistic ideas to be developed, shared, and communicated across different audiences and contexts.
